LAKE TAHOE, Nev. — Sand Harbor’s boat ramp will be closed September 7, 2010, due to low water conditions.
The parking lot will remain open for carry-in boat access only. Boat inspectors will continue to be present and inspections for invasive species are free for non-motorized watercraft. All other boaters should use the Cave Rock boat ramp facility.
This closure will prevent personal watercraft from being damaged and protect the end of the launch lanes from damage.Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park appreciates the public’s understanding in this matter and the safety measures the park is taking to protect property.
Call Jay Howard at 775-831-0494, extension 229, for more information.

Chelsea Handler is irreverent, boisterous, versatile, refreshing, sarcastic and hilarious. That’s a lot of adjectives to describe one of the country’s funniest women, who broke into the scene in 2007 with her late-night talk show on E! Entertainment, “Chelsea Lately.” Her commentary on celebrity culture is raw and her insight at times is a little nerve-wrenching, but you laugh anyway, because she’s very funny. Chelsea has also broken through a male dominated arena by boasting five female writers which make up half her staff.
Chelsea is an equally known best-selling author with three books on the New York Times Best Seller list, including “Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang,” “Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me” and “My Horizontal Life.”
In 2009, there was a special titled “Comedians of Chelsea Lately” which consisted of Chelsea Lately round-table comics Loni Love, Guy Branum, Heather McDonald and Chuy Bravo. Their shtick was such a great success, that the comics are now on tour throughout the country with a stop at The Grand Theatre on Saturday, October 2. Don’t miss the “Comedians of Chelsea Lately,” you’re guaranteed an evening of the best comedy around!

In true Virginia City spirit, the Camel Races began as a hoax.
Camels were introduced to the American frontier as pack animals, and were brought to the Comstock to carry salt and general supplies. As Virginia City grew and the V&T Railroad took over the drayage chores for the area, the sometimes disagreeable and smelly animals were turned loose in the hills, and eventually disappeared. Bob Richards, late editor of Lucius Beebe’s "Territorial Enterprise," wrote a fictitious account of the city’s "Camel Races" in 1959, and followed up the next year with an editorial announcement of the upcoming races. Local residents, wise to this form of humor which dates back to the tall tales of Mark Twain and Dan DeQuille, early "Enterprise" reporters, watched the first real race that year.
The San Francisco "Chronicle" took up the challenge thrown down by Richards; and movie director John Huston charged to victory in that first race on a camel borrowed from the San Francisco Zoo. In 1962, Ostrich Races were added to the event, and in 1987 Virginia City took the competition to its sister city, Alice Springs, Australia, and added "International" to the title

October 2010 – May 2011
Taught by Kimberlee Orenstein, MS, E-RYT, this program is designed for experienced yoga practitioners who are committed to deepening their practice and their understanding of yoga. It is also for those who are currently teaching or would like to begin teaching yoga someday. A fundamental purpose of yoga practice is self-discovery and growth. Beginning October 2010 deepen your personal practice and understanding of yoga in this 200 hour advanced study/teacher training program.
Yoga Loka is a registered school of the Yoga Alliance and this course meets the standards for a yoga teacher to register (certify) at the 200 hour level. How to make our personal practice more effective and how to make yoga a more integral part of our lives are two themes that will weave through the entire nine months. This is how experienced yoga practitioners who are not necessarily interested in teaching can also benefit from this training.
The course will meet a total of 10 weekends (Sat. & Sun.) between Oct and early May.
