Reno Tahoe Tonight

I made the trek back to Northern Nevada and made it my home a few months ago. Originally a native of Oakland, I lived here in the mid 70’s and have always been impressed with the cross section of people who make up this area. It is so much more than sage brush, casinos and hookers.  I am glad to be back

One of the great things about the Reno area is the cross section of people with whom you come in contact…the cowboy, biker, student, musician, casino worker, artist, poet, entrepreneur…they are all here.  I met Oliver X on Facebook, who publishes the magazine, Reno Tahoe Tonight, and he does a damn good job capturing the diverse flavor of the area.

Reno Tahoe Tonight is Northern Nevada’s fastest growing independent monthly magazine. Last month their page count trumped Time Magazine and all other independent monthlies in Northern Nevada.

Reno Tahoe Tonight has been featured on The Reno Style show, the KRNV Channel 4 News and the KTVN Channel 2 News.  In "Northern Nevada’s biggest popularity contest," Reno Tahoe Tonight was voted 2nd Best Local Magazine, behind the Reno News & Review, in RN&R’s 2009 Biggest Little Best of Northern Nevada Reader’s Poll–after just our 9th month in existence!

People are responding strongly to Reno Tahoe Tonight because they celebrate the people, places, hidden treasures and small businesses that make this region one of the most creative places in the country. Their features and photo journals reflect the essence of the creative resurgence happening here.

When we asked Editor/Publisher Oliver X to describe his publication, he said. "Reno Tahoe Tonight is an alt culture magazine about the people, places and things that make Northern Nevada a special place to live. Burning Man, Artown, Nada Dada, an amazing underground fine art culture, and one of the most vibrant bar scenes in America, makes for a rich backdrop from which RTT draws its inspiration."

Oliver X goes on to describe his publication, "I think RTT is unique because it’s uncensored and unafraid to give voices to those who check the "Other" box on their census reports."

Oliver

We picked up this blurb on his website about himself "Oliver X is a sushi-loving long-board skater, veteran music consultant and contributing writer to Flixster.com, the world’s largest online movie fan community.  A recent NorNev transplant, X has fallen in love with the region’s art community in a big way.

The dreadlocked Taurean has traveled abroad extensively, teaching English in Europe and has produced live concerts throughout North America for artists like Ziggy Marley, Maxxi Priest, Steele Pulse, Digital Underground and George Clinton. The GigsRus.net Founder and Editor/Publisher of Reno Tahoe Tonight Magazine lives in a quiet South Reno neighborhood with his trusted skateboard Dino. He speaks no French."

When we ask Oliver X about the future of the magazine, he says, "We’re now available for free at over 150 locations in Northern Nevada and Northern California. Staring with the January 2010 issue we will begin to make a play at regional exposure in SF, Sacramento and all points in between. Our goal is to be at an additional 100 retailers by June of 2010. Our bilingual component will be an exciting addition to our local coverage. 1 out of 3 Nevadans will be Latino by 2012." Look for Oliver and Reno Tahoe Tonight throughout the area.
