The Comedians of Chelsea Lately – October 2, 2010

The Comedians of Chelsea Lately – October 2, 2010

Chelsea Handler is irreverent, boisterous, versatile, refreshing, sarcastic and hilarious. That’s a lot of adjectives to describe one of the country’s funniest women, who broke into the scene in 2007 with her late-night talk show on E! Entertainment, “Chelsea Lately.” Her commentary on celebrity culture is raw and her insight at times is a little nerve-wrenching, but you laugh anyway, because she’s very funny. Chelsea has also broken through a male dominated arena by boasting five female writers which make up half her staff.

Chelsea is an equally known best-selling author with three books on the New York Times Best Seller list, including “Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang,” “Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me” and “My Horizontal Life.”

In 2009, there was a special titled “Comedians of Chelsea Lately” which consisted of Chelsea Lately round-table comics Loni Love, Guy Branum, Heather McDonald and Chuy Bravo. Their shtick was such a great success, that the comics are now on tour throughout the country with a stop at The Grand Theatre on Saturday, October 2. Don’t miss the “Comedians of Chelsea Lately,” you’re guaranteed an evening of the best comedy around!

Virginia City Camel Races – Sept 10-12, 2010

Virginia City Camel Races – Sept 10-12, 2010

In true Virginia City spirit, the Camel Races began as a hoax.

Camels were introduced to the American frontier as pack animals, and were brought to the Comstock to carry salt and general supplies. As Virginia City grew and the V&T Railroad took over the drayage chores for the area, the sometimes disagreeable and smelly animals were turned loose in the hills, and eventually disappeared. Bob Richards, late editor of Lucius Beebe’s "Territorial Enterprise," wrote a fictitious account of the city’s "Camel Races" in 1959, and followed up the next year with an editorial announcement of the upcoming races. Local residents, wise to this form of humor which dates back to the tall tales of Mark Twain and Dan DeQuille, early "Enterprise" reporters, watched the first real race that year.

The San Francisco "Chronicle" took up the challenge thrown down by Richards; and movie director John Huston charged to victory in that first race on a camel borrowed from the San Francisco Zoo. In 1962, Ostrich Races were added to the event, and in 1987 Virginia City took the competition to its sister city, Alice Springs, Australia, and added "International" to the title

Singles Party & Beer Specials – Sept. 30, 2010

8minuteDating, the hottest new way to meet people to date, and The Waterfall will be hosting a singles event on September 30th at 7:08 pm. Suggested age group 25-35.

The last 8minuteDating.com event held at The Waterfall was featured on August 18th on KOLO Channel 8, Hot Topic. Everyone had a great time, and some matches were made! Come see what the Buzz is about! Participants will enjoy a fun, stress free evening, meeting a room full of single people, waiting to meet them, complimentary appetizers, door prizes, and beer specials.

The tag line for 8minuteDating is ‘8 Great Dates – 1 Fun Night!’ Here’s how it works: Men and women are paired off for 8 one-on-one conversations. After 8 minutes, the host rings a bell, and the participants discreetly note on their dating card whether or not they’re interested in another date with that person.

In the middle of the evening, there’s a 20-minute intermission. Guests can talk further with some of the people they have already met, or they can approach that certain someone they may have had their eye on, but haven’t gotten the opportunity to meet yet. This is also a good time to write down the names of people they’re interested in meeting.

After the intermission, each participant has four more 8-minute dates. After the eighth date, the organized part is over, but the evening is not. At this point everyone can mingle, make new friends, and also enjoy a cash bar and complimentary appetizers. After the event, the participants enter the names of the people they’re interested in dating on the 8minuteDating.com web site. When any two people are interested in meeting each other again, the web site automatically sends e-mails to both parties with their contact information.

8minuteDating events have been selling out Nationwide and are gaining popularity in the Reno area. Participants have enjoyed a fun, safe way to meet other single people and have made new friends. Our August 18th event at The Waterfall was featured on KOLO Channel 8 News Hot Topic, and has been featured on Fox Business, NBC, The Today Show, and more. 8minuteDating guarantees you will meet someone you want to see again, or your next event is on us!

Four Selected As 2010 Nevada Football Captains

Four Selected As 2010 Nevada Football Captains

Reno, Nev. – Four Wolf Pack standouts were selected by their teammates to serve as captains for the 2010 season, head coach Chris Ault announced Friday.

On the offensive side of the ball, senior quarterback Colin Kaepernick and senior tight end Virgil Green were selected as captains. From the defense, senior defensive end Ryan Coulson and junior linebacker James-Michael Johnson were the selections. Voting was done by the players.

“I believe all four were excellent choices and I think the team did a nice job selecting this group of captains,” head coach Chris Ault said.

This is the first year as a captain for all four players.

Kaepernick is in his fourth season as a starter and has been named to six Watch Lists for various annual college football awards.

“I think the biggest thing for me is that it means my teammates respect me, respect how hard I work and how hard I play the game,” Kaepernick said. “It means that they know they can turn to me when we need to make a play or make something happen.”

Green is a third-year starter who earned second-team All-WAC honors last year and is on the Watch List this year for the Mackay Award,

“It is great honor to have your teammates vote for you,” Green said. “I’m happy that the team looks at me as a leader this year and hopefully I can help guide us to a WAC Championship and a bowl victory.”

Ryan Coulson started eight games for Nevada last year and stood out through fall camp this year. In his career, Coulson has record 43 tackles, including 6.0 for a loss. He has 3.0 sacks in his career, including 2.5 last season while splitting time with Kevin Basped.

Johnson joins the ranks of an elite group in Nevada history, being voted as a captain in his junior season. He was a second-team All-WAC selection last season and is moving from the outside to the middle linebacker spot this year.

ACES WIN SEE-SAW BATTLE OVER 51S, 12-10

August 28, 2010 – LAS VEGAS—A three-run homer by Yunesky Sanchez helped lead Reno to a 12-10 comeback victory over Las Vegas on Friday night in a back-and-forth battle at Cashman Field, giving the Aces their season-high sixth-straight win.

The Aces led 5-0 after just three and a half innings, but Las Vegas fought back to take a 9-5 lead after six frames. Reno didn’t fold, however, fighting back with three in the seventh and three more in the eighth to take the lead for good.

Sanchez hit his seventh home run of the season in the Aces’ three-run seventh before Reno added three more in the eighth to take an 11-10 lead. Reno added an insurance run in the ninth, outscoring Las Vegas 7-1 over the final three innings to defeat the 51s for the fourth time in as many nights.

Kevin Mulvey started and took a no-decision, despite surrendering seven earned runs over five innings of work. Jose Marte (4-3) earned the win in relief, and Carlos Rosa left the tying run on base in the ninth to earn his 12th save of the season.

Las Vegas starter Lance Broadway did not factor in the decision either, as Jeremy Accardo (2-2) took the loss after allowing two runs—one earned—in 1.2 innings of relief.

Mark Hallberg reached base five times for the Aces—finishing 4-for-4 with a walk—while Ed Rogers and Doug Deeds combined for five hits and four RBIs. Rogers also scored three times for Reno, which recorded 15 hits and was helped by four Las Vegas errors.

Reno and Las Vegas complete the season series Sunday evening, with RHP Matt Torra (11-6, 4.20 ERA) toeing the slab against 51s LHP Luis Perez (4-5, 6.29 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. from Cashman Field, and all the action can be heard live in Reno on 1450 AM, or online at RenoAces.com.

The Aces return home Monday evening for a four-game series against Portland. The four-game set is Fan Appreciation Week at Aces Ballpark, with numerous specials and giveaways throughout the week.

Tickets for all Aces games start at just $7, and are available by calling the Reno Aces box office at (775) 334-7000 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week, on both game days and non-game days.
